ED3 Acquires Land for New Substation off HWY 238
Electrical District No. 3 (ED3) is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of land for its new Moonlight Substation. The property, located along Highway 238, will be the site of a crucial infrastructure expansion to meet the growing energy needs of the northwestern part of Maricopa which also provides reliability benefits to allow for better distribution of load between substations.
This land acquisition marks another step forward in ED3's commitment to enhancing electrical service reliability and capacity in the area. The Moonlight Substation project is part of ED3’s ongoing actions to modernize and strengthen the local power grid.
The Moonlight Substation will play a vital role in supporting the growth and reliability in northwest Maricopa and ensuring ED3 continues to provide reliable electrical service. Construction timelines are being developed and ED3 has ordered the two large transformers and switchgear in 2024. This is a $11M investment for Maricopa.
