Maricopa, AZ – June 2, 2025 – Electrical District No. 3 (ED3), today announced that June 2nd, 2025 marked the official start of operations for the Box Canyon Solar Project, a 300-megawatt solar project in Pinal County. ED3’s portion of the project is 63.4 megawatts and represents the first utility-scale solar project for ED3’s power supply portfolio. The project is part of ED3’s commitment for 100 megawatts of new renewable resources by its 100th anniversary in 2026. A second solar project that ED3 subscribed to, Apache Solar II, is under construction and is slated to be online by year-end 2025.
