ED3 Sets System Peak Record

On August 7th, Electrical District No. 3 (ED3) set a new record for its system demand of 280 megawatts (MW) at 5:13 pm with a temperature of 115 degrees. This surpasses previous peak system records which were set on two other occasions in 2025 including 275.5 MW on August 6th and 272.3 MW on July 9th. The 2024 peak system record was 269.5 MW on July 9th, 2024.

ED3 has added power supply resources to meet projected summer demands including increasing our Mesquite Natural Gas power supply contract to 210 MW of capacity and adding 63.4 MW of solar from the Box Canyon Solar project. The District has announced 75 MW of additional solar capacity and 85 MW of battery energy storage capacity (4-hour) under development with projects projected to come online in December 2025 and 2027.
