In December 2025, Electric District No. 3 (ED3) filed to join Western United Electric Supply as a cooperative member, to gain access to competitive pricing and other benefits for electric supply and construction materials. Western United Electric Supply is a buying cooperative for rural electric utilities, allowing them to leverage collective purchasing power for better rates on equipment and supplies. The membership will leverage additional supply chain partnerships to help manage supply needs for ED3. The membership adds optionality to ED3’s procurement strategies to meet the needs of the district.

Western United Electric Supply Corporation (WUE) was established in June 1976 to provide an avenue for rural electric cooperatives in the Rocky Mountain Region to combine annual material purchase with one entity and creating the buying power necessary to obtain the best available material cost from vendors. Western United has expanded in recent years including having a warehouse in Tucson, Arizona.
