Electrical District No. 3 (ED3), in coordination with regional development stakeholders, has successfully completed a utility relocation project supporting a Pinal County Road widening effort impacting multiple growing communities.

The project supports roadway improvements associated with the Venida, Amarillo Creek, and Palomino Ranch subdivisions, where Papago Road was widened to enhance traffic flow and improve roadway safety. As part of the road realignment, conflicts were identified between the expanded roadway footprint and existing 69kV transmission infrastructure.

To accommodate the county’s widening project, two transmission poles were relocated, and two additional poles were changed out with upgraded steel structures. The work ensured the roadway expansion could proceed while maintaining system integrity and public safety.

The project was fully funded by LGI Homes, the developer and builder of the Venida Subdivision, and was completed using ED3’s established engineering, design, and construction processes. ED3 line crews performed the work safely and efficiently, maintaining reliable electric service throughout construction.

The completed relocation not only resolved roadway conflicts but also enhanced the long-term durability and resilience of ED3’s transmission system serving the area. The upgraded steel structures are designed to support future growth and evolving infrastructure needs.

This project highlights the importance of collaboration between Pinal County, developers, and ED3 in supporting responsible regional growth. ED3 remains committed to partnering with public agencies and the development community to deliver safe, reliable electric service while enabling critical transportation improvements.

No additional electric utility work is anticipated at this time for this section of Papago Road.
