The Electrical District No. 3 Board of Directors has approved the Maricopa High School Loop Feed Project, a reliability improvement estimated to cost approximately $115,000.
Maricopa High School is currently served by Circuit MW123 through a single tap configuration. The school’s planned demolition and building expansion work created an opportunity for ED3 to complete a previously identified distribution system improvement while coordinating with the school’s construction schedule.
As part of the project, ED3 will bore beneath North John Wayne Parkway, extend distribution facilities and connect the school’s existing service to Circuit MW132. The work will establish a looped configuration between Circuits MW123 and MW132 and include the switching, terminations and other distribution improvements needed for safe and reliable operation.
The new configurations will provide a second electrical source for the area. If service from one circuit is interrupted, the looped system will give ED3 additional switching options to restore power more efficiently. The improvement will benefit Maricopa High School and nearby residential customers by increasing system flexibility and strengthening local electric service reliability.
Construction is scheduled to begin during the week of August 27th and is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete. ED3 will coordinate the work with the school’s construction activities to complete the project efficiently and minimize disruptions to the school and surrounding community.
With Board approval secured, ED3 will move forward with this important distribution-system reliability improvement.
